Common Moving Mistakes to Avoid

avoid moving mistakes

Moving is one of the biggest causes of stress for a person. You are essentially packing up your entire life and taking it to a new place. That is a lot for someone to handle. There are things you can do to make it easier on yourself though. Be sure to avoid these common moving mistakes the next time it’s time to start packing.

Procrastinating

Leaving all of your packing to the last minute will cause a lot of unnecessary stress. Start packing boxes a few weeks before your actual moving date. Set a goal for yourself, such as packing one box each day. Pack items that you don’t use often first and leave things you need, such as the dishes for last.

Moving Yourself

It may be tempting to save money and move everything yourself, but it can actually wind up costing you a whole lot more. Moving heavy furniture leaves you vulnerable to a possible injury. You can also end up damaging your belongings or scratching up the floors. You may end up spending more fixing or replacing what was broken than you would have if you’d hired local movers St Louis in the first place.

Avoiding Unpacking

Although you are probably tired from packing and moving to a new place, it is important to start unpacking as soon as possible. The sooner everything is put into its proper place, the sooner your new house will start to feel like a home. Start by unpacking the most important items right away and end with hanging all artwork and pictures on the walls.

You may find that your new place doesn’t feel quite like home right away. It can take time to adjust so try not to rush it. Give yourself time to settle in and soon it will start to feel like you’ve lived there all along.
